Arsenal Chase World Cup Star

By M. B. Zaidi

We have been LINKED with the Ghana captain Stephen Appiah from his Turkish club Fenerbahce…we were linked with him last year when our skipper at the time, Vieira, left for Juventus…and Appiah was supposed to come in the other direction to us.

If this speculation has some truth in it, then it would be a welcome signing considering his form for Ghana in recent weeks and he really does look like the type of player you would want in your team. He looks dangerously built and muscular that he looks like “he’s on steroids” as my brother put it …that’s a good thing by the way…so for him to add some strength in the middle of the park is something we really do need…no word on the transfer fee but it could well be all transfer speculation that doesn’t come true. Any more news on this and we will get it up straight away.

Good day all…

We need a beefy bloke in midfielder for those awful north-west games in mid-winter when the likes of Bolton have fabregit for breakfast.

To be honest, as good as Appiah has been for Ghana, i would by far prefer to see Yaya Toure. I mean Kolo said that this guy is better than him, and Kolo was one of our best players last season. Whatever happens we need a strong DM, it could be an awesome midfield next season.

I thought Zakora was better than Yaya. And it was bleedingly obvious that what we needed for the past two seasons was Ray Parlour and Sylvain Wiltord – both as strong as oxen, and with motors to boot. The latter consistently scoring match winnners if nothing else. Still doing it in fact.

Appiah anywhere in mids? I’d go for it, although I think Diaby has a massive future as a midfield enforcer. Let’s hope so.

i agree that we need a strong 6 footer plus to enforce the centre of our midfield. what i saw of yaya at the world cup was very impressive and if he is like his brother ie. hardworking, team player, generally nice guy) he would be a decent acquisition. javier mascherano of argentina wouldnt be too bad either but he might be a bit too expensive.

yep i agree we need a DM and Appiah was great during this world cup but if we can get Yaya Toure i would go for him , and Diaby im sure he will be a tremendous player but he’s injured at the moment and probably will mis a half of this season…

Yaya is exactly the kind of player we could do with. Intelligent, right age and very good on the ball. It would be a shame if we didn’t sign him because from what I can see he wants to sign for us.

I don’t see any of the forwards in the current Arsenal squad good enough to compliment TH. RvP usually don’t get involved in games enough for me while Adebayor is too much of a hit and miss striker. To be able to challenge Chelsea this season, we need to add to the squad in the right areas.

How can you forget Flamini. If he can do his DEFENSIVE duties at Left back, he can certainly do it in the centre of the park

Thankyou all for your comments…would agree that Yaya Toure would be a great signing, but just to let you know…as far as I know when Kolo Toure said that stuff about “he is a better player than me”…

IT WAS at the time where Yaya Toure was on trial at Arsenal…a couple of seasons back I think…so since then Kolo has improved substantially…but never the less…we can see from the way Yaya played in the world cup that he looks to be a very decent player indeed…hope he signs
