Zan Wants To Be An Arsenal Man…NOT WHAT WE NEED/Flamini/Baptista

Turkish defender Gokhan Zan has stated his desire to be in North London by the end of the upcoming January transfer window. I don’t know much about him apart from him being a central defender which for me is enough to say we should be spending that money in another area of the team. If you look at the numbers…we have two of the best centre backs in the premiership along with two young Swiss defenders that have shown they are more than capable of stepping up when needed. Both Djourou and Senderos shouldn’t have another defender to compete with because this would hinder their development in my opinion.
We have three very able right backs once Lauren is back and only one natural left back. If there is a need for strengthening the back four it should be in the left back slot NOT in the centre. Also, we have ONE REAL defensive midfielder in Gilberto who has really stepped up this season as one of our most important players. Even if Flamini has done well of late in a midfield five and scored a couple goals…I don’t think he would be adequate to play as the only defensive midfielder in a midfield four…he doesn’t have that presence about him that gives you confidence that he can keep winning balls and shield the defence. His stamina and work rate is second to none but I think that can only really be appreciated when Gilberto is playing so once again if we need another player it is arguably in this position. Gilberto is terrific but if he gets injured or needs a break…we haven’t really got the depth we need in that position…unless of course we get to see a lot more of Denilson.
When we got rid of Reyes and Cole it was losing two players who naturally play on the left…we got Gallas and Baptista in return…that is two players who want to play in the centre…Baptista has hardly been used by Wenger even before his injury which leads us to think whether he can be accommodated and where he will be used as we still don’t have much clarity. In my eyes at least…he is a tremendous asset to have, a fantastic scoring record just leads me to believe he should be getting games…BUT WHERE? Fabregas can’t be left out…Rosicky can’t be left out…and upfront it seems Ade and Van are running things right now so that seems to be why. That is going off the topic now…and it is Christmas day so stop reading this and go and get merry…More on signings in the January window soon. Any comments on the issues I have discussed are always welcomed…from the Turkish defenders situation…Flamini reaction or Baptista’s position and value to our team…I look forward to hearing from you all. We don't need a left back either.
Clichy is first choice, and then we also have Traore coming through, plus Gallas can play there in need, as can Flamini or even Ralph or Hoyte.
In DM we have Bert backed up by Denilson, Song (who is NOT as bad as all the mullets are making out), Muamba in due course, and we also have Diaby coming back too.
AW is quite correct, we do not need anybody except a keeper in the summer to cater for Jens eventually hanging up his gloves.
I do agree with you there are players "that CAN play at left back" as in those that you have said... however ...My case is IF we were to spend this is where to spend it...
The problem however in saying "people CAN play" in this position etc...is that we are staying content with players that PERHAPS ONE DAY COULD PLAY THERE...I could say Gilberto can play at centre back IF NEEDED but it doesnt mean that is strengthening the team. Hoyte can play there but he is clearly better on the right...Gallas CAN play there but he is best appreciated when playing in the centre...Flamini played there once or twice this season and he didnt have a very good time.
CLichy has done superbly since coming back so I am fully backing him to be good enough for now and beyond...
Muamba looks a good solid player, he went to a school near me and my friend actually played on the same school team as him and said he is an outstanding player. Song played the other day and got subbed at half time...No need to say more...
It is rare that any fan agrees with a manager that says he does not need to buy.....but I really don't think we need to buy. Between Gallas and Falmini, I think we are well covered at the left back. Baptista and Walcott both deserve a consistent run of games, and they can't get one because of the competition up front and on the wing. Diaby will be back in four weeks to provie the cover for Flamini and Gilberto. We seem to be loaded up front, and we will need to find a first team place for Bendtner come the next season. I think the difference between our current team and a team that lifts the Championship trophy is another 50 games for the younger players - nothing more and nothing less.
I hope baptista and theo get a start tomorrow against watford. a relatively easy game its perfect for them to be introduced into the first team. I agree that Baptista is a great sesst with his power and goal scorig abilities and i hope we sign him permantly
As far as left back is concerned, Ryan Garry is back after three whole years injured. He seems to be be the forgotten man. I think he'll give Clichy a run for his money when he's match fit. And he can play in central defence too.
WE have several young players that are very good...but think of the good ones that we all THOUGHT would break through and then were left out or sold or released. David Bentley, Quincy, Upson, Pennant...Bendtner is a super player and I hope he doesnt get sold to Birmingham where they will try to sign him permanantly if they get promoted.
Soon on that list could be J. Aliadiere if he doesnt do much this season he could be on his way out. Lots of talented youngsters at our club...not enough space to accomadate the ones with bad attitudes (Pennant included)...Hoyte is showing what a good english youngster should do when given a chance...give it 150%...that is why he has had a chance to play so much this season because his attitude is superb.
Song not as bad as people make out?? You obviously don't go to games mate, he is one of the worst players I've seen in an Arsenal shirt in 30 years. Normally with youngsters you can see potential at the very least.....Fabregas oozed it, Anelka looked class early on, the likes of Fran Merida and Denilson show it. Song has never shown it, in friendlies or in competitive matches he is very very poor and Wenger paid 2.5m for him, that's why he has to defend him!!
Indeed I would agree with you...im not normally one to get on the back of youngsters...BUT SONG HASN'T SHOWN ONE SINGLE BIT OF POTENTIAL to be worth £2.5 mil...if you think Upson got sold for £1 mil...then you can see what £2.5 mil can buy you. HOWEVER Wenger does see him in training and perhaps the only thing I could see promising was his size...he seems like he could have some muscle...but apart from that he is either very worried and nervous or he is just a bad player (for arsenal standards). I hope I am wrong but so far he hasn't shown his worth...merry Christmas ay...
Song is indeed terrible as was Cygan but we recouped our investment in the great one, no doubt Arsene will suprise us and either Song will go thro a remakable change or move on for 3 million bucks!
I completely agree... I think this is just mere speculation and cant see why we would want another central defender. Clichy has impressed me this season and I think he has a big future. Gallas has shown he is world class even as a left back but as we all know this is not his preferred position. I think it would be a good idea to buy another left sided defender... Leighton Baines would be a good addition, as he would provide good competition for Clichy and is also English which would be a big 'up yours' to all those detractors who complain about our lack of English players.
Though it is a defensive midfielder that I think we are in most need of. Someone with a physical presence who could slot into the 5 man midfield and also play when Gilberto doesnt. Of what we currently have available I think Diaby and Denilson will be excellent players but arent ready just yet. Flamini has to be commended for his performances this season and is definitely a useful member of the squad due to his versatility, but is not the answer. And Song has physical presence and probably talent somewhere but hasnt shown it at all. I think AW would be wise to either loan him out or get rid of him and bring in someone like Reo Coker, Barton, Fabio Simplicio etc. Someone who would add a bit of strength and power which would release Cesc's workload and give him more opportunity to control games.
That brings me to Baptista who concerns me a little at the moment... You can see that he has all the attributes to succceed in the premiership and it is clear AW saw his potential as an attacking goal scoring midfielder with power in abundance. But I think he's gonna need this whole season to fully adapt. He looks as if he's struggling with the pace of the games and also needs to increase his work rate. Once he does this, comes to terms with the pace of the premiership and gets some confidence in his game I think we will see the real 'Beast'.

Do you guys think that there is any chance that Bendtner might go out on loan to Watford. Thwy have lost Marlon King and in need of a proven goal scorer and do not have the money to buy.
It will be good premiership experience for our young striker.
There is a firkin load of sentiment doing the rounds. Player A COULD play at left back, or player B COULD fill in somewhere else. Get real lads. Let sentiment take a back seat.
Wenger needs to be ruthless. That is the only way to stay in touch with the clubs at the top, which I take is what we all want. We are some way off the pace at the moment.

We already have a 'new' DM on his way in. Lauren. He will be a fantastic backup to Gilberto when he is not playing RB.
