Henry Cheated But So Did Sheva And Gerrard...

By M. B. Zaidi

Thankyou all for your comments on the Henry play acting incident, and as most have said lets no go to into it…however just to clarify for all you Chelski and Sp*rs fans that seem to have nothing better to do than ATTEMPT to terrorise arsenal websites…let me say this on Henry:

Henry DID hold his face…and he DID cheat in that sense…just to clarify that up. BUT Puyol was clearly running in his path and not even looking at the ball, that is as bad as holding your face after getting a foul, or at least is bad as it is…if Puyol hadn’t done the act in the first place, Henrys repercussions wouldn’t have occurred.

It was quite BRILLIANT to see in the studio afterwards seeing the studio guests saying “He is a great player but that was unnecessary and was cheating that needs to be clamped down on..”

BUT YET…the same British media (Even if it is ITV or BBC doesn’t matter to me)...seem to say it was FINE when Gerrard did it in the warm up game before the world cup…IF ANYTHING in a friendly game should it be worth so much to a player like Gerrard to have to BLATENTLY DIVE in the penalty area? Yes Henry held his face stupidly...and it should be said that it shouldn’t happen…BUT why is that when Gerrard DIVED…all THREE of the studio guests (cant remember all of them but definitely one was Ian Wright, think the others were Alan Hansen and Alan Shearer) said “others will do it to us why shouldn’t we do it to”…and Ian Wright was jumping up and down PROTESTING that Steven Gerrard did the right thing….

WHAT HYPOCRICY…because when I put on MOTD on at 11pm it was the same guy who is Theirry’s mate…saying that “I don’t know what he is doing there”…GET IT WRIGHT…ok please excuse my lame excuse for a pun…but you get the point I hope…

Henry held his face like he was doing an impression of Rivaldo in the last world cup…Sheva hurdled over..won a penalty that wasn’t and then sent Ukraine into the next round…AND GERRARD…please don’t get me started again it hurts my chest…

Still want to enjoy the World cup but I have promised myself I will put my TV on mute next time I watch a football match on the BBC/ITV…Have a nice day…

Henry Faked Elbow attack to make up for this...

YES HENRY CHEATED...however it WAS a foul, but it wasnt an elbow in his face...it is really out of his character to do something like that because in all honesty he is usually quite fair...however...it seems as if we have found the reason he was trying to get Puyol back for the Champions League final where Puyol did this...hmmm...what goes around comes around I guess...but still...doesnt mean that two wrongs make a right...anway what you think of the elbow incident?

Arsenal Chase World Cup Star

By M. B. Zaidi

We have been LINKED with the Ghana captain Stephen Appiah from his Turkish club Fenerbahce…we were linked with him last year when our skipper at the time, Vieira, left for Juventus…and Appiah was supposed to come in the other direction to us.

If this speculation has some truth in it, then it would be a welcome signing considering his form for Ghana in recent weeks and he really does look like the type of player you would want in your team. He looks dangerously built and muscular that he looks like “he’s on steroids” as my brother put it …that’s a good thing by the way…so for him to add some strength in the middle of the park is something we really do need…no word on the transfer fee but it could well be all transfer speculation that doesn’t come true. Any more news on this and we will get it up straight away.

Good day all…

World Cup 2006 – Quote: “Ronaldinho isn’t as good for Brazil as he is for Barcelona”...AND the “Chelsea Over-Hype” Again…

By M. B. Zaidi

Does that sound familiar?...That one of the best players in the world is criticised after a not so brilliant display with his national side?...Well…yes you are correct, that is what the media and every Thierry Henry hater is spitting out of their mouths right now…he is told that he doesn’t play as well for his country as he does for his club…BUT YET he is second in the all time international goal scorer list for France behind the great Platini who scored 41 goals…and Thierry is already on 35?

Henry played much better in the last game and scored a good goal as well as being lively throughout the match in my opinion…and if Ribery had actually taken a couple of his chances then it would have been a different story for those who dare to criticise Thierry so much. Fair enough he hasn’t scored as many goals for France as he has for Arsenal but the players he plays with week in week out are those who play around him, the team at Arsenal is built around him…when it comes to France it is built around Zidane mainly and to an extent a combination of Zidane and Henry…this is where the problem is, but obviously you cant drop either player of their calibre… but I ask you…WHY IS IT that when Henry is slightly quiet but yet scores a goal and sets up another that should have been a goal, that people are still on his back…BUT YET WHEN RONALDINHO hasn’t done ANYTHING in 4 games for Brazil, nothing is said?

That quote at the top isn’t from Andy Gray, Gary Lineker, Maradona or even Pele…but from ME…I don’t actually agree with it consistently, but after today’s display it is only fair to say…after all nobody hesitates to say it to Thierry…if they can do it Thierry then we can do it to the rest…YES it is absurd to be so harsh on a player that is pretty much the best player in the world, but yet nobody has even suggested it or got on his back have they?

Message to the media: LEAVE HENRY ALONE and stop with your foolish comments and stop jumping on the band wagon every time the likes of Ronaldinho, Lampard, Terry do something good…DON’T GET ME WRONG…I’m not comparing those three players because Ronaldinho is the best player in the world whereas Lampard and Terry are simply “Chelsea over-hyped”, decent players…BUT at this present time in football they are three players that are never really criticised.

Example: Terry made an absolute HOWLER against Ecuador which could have resulted in us being 1-0 down to a team that shouldn’t be troubling us…I hardly heard one word of criticism for his mistake…WHICH by the way, he actually makes a lot of if you watch him for England, just that it never gets pointed out. Against Sweden it was him who missed the header in the first place from a simple long throw and then Sol hacked a leg at it…then he looked like an idiot because nobody admitted that Terry made a stupid school boy error…sorry to say any John Terry fans, but he really isn’t the best defender in the world or close to it, just a very decent, strong Englishmen who has bags of pride and passion…who is a decent player, and a great player when playing behind Claude Makelele for 38 games in a season…Just ask yourself this though, and take into account I’m a diehard Arsenal fan…say for example John Terry played for Tottenham, do you think he would be England’s number one centre half right now? For anyone who answered yes, then you certainly are naïve to think that…Michael Carrick is a terrific player who cant get into the first team of England because Frank Lampard is occupying a second attacking midfield role, whereas Carrick should be playing as the only defensive midfielder in the squad…I BET YOU if Carrick does sign for United, he will soon be challenging for Lampard’s place, its all politics in the world of football. Keeping everyone happy and all that…Sven hasn’t got the balls to drop any of his “superstars” and took a 17 year old who he has no faith in to play, thank God he is leaving after the world cup, gives me time to save up for 4 years time to see England actually have a chance.

Ronaldinho does little wrong, but where was he today against Ghana? AND so far in this world cup he hasn’t done much at all but I’m quite sure within the next few matches he will, but yet the fact remains he has disappointed so far.

I know I am being harsh, and to be fair I don’t particularly mean that “quote” at the top of your page…but it is just something for you to ponder on what the media does in these circumstances and how inconsistent they are with their harsh and unfair criticisms of great players like our captain, Thierry Henry…and then how quick they are to JUMP onto a bit of skill or a 2 second event in a match where a player does something “pretty”…The purpose of this article isn’t to criticise Ronaldinho because the world knows his greatness and he will show his true colours in the next few games, but the real essence of this time it is taking up for me to write this…is to show why it isn’t fair to be harsh on players like Henry as they are right now…and then not being consistent in their comments…

I know he doesn’t need defending because he is a big boy now…so I hope tonight against Spain he really turns it on just to shut everyone up as he so often has…so I will leave you with one more thing to think about…Remember that era of “Henry cant play well in the champions league/Europe”…??? Anybody remember? Well I think 41 goals in 77 matches proved that wrong...OH and not to mention this seasons heroics against sides that we were serious underdogs to…I seriously hope he scores tonight and I for one just cant wait for the match to start…can you?

ArsenalReview.com : Player Of The Season Awards…BIG Discussion

By M. B. Zaidi

We are in the middle of the World Cup and I do realise that there are more important things to talk about but this is an Arsenal website after all…so let the discussion begin on who has been Arsenal’s best player this season. There are three awards that have been put forward, if you have an idea for another one then please feel free to suggest via the comment section:

-Player Of The Season
-Young Player Of The Season
-Most Improved Player Of The Season

For everyone the “player of the season” will be different and what people will look for in the best player will be different, but for me it should be one who has contributed hugely throughout the season and has performed regularly better than everyone else. This player surely must have had many man of the match games for us and done special things at vital times. Without forgetting a crucial feature of the player of the season is to have entertained us as the beloved fans…whether that is with his skills, goals, celebrations, or generally the flashpoints in a game..you get the point. Normally it would be an easy choice because having Mr. Va Va Voom in our side, would usually make him the first choice but this year it has been different.

With our phenomenal Champions League run many players emerged and stood up to the test of the great teams we faced, including a final in Paris where we WERENT OUTPLAYED with 10 men. Here are some of the contenders for player of the season…

Kolo Toure was the rock at the back from which our team was built upon a solid foundation…crucial tackles, headers, blocks in MASSIVE games against massive players…remember that last ditch tackle against Ibrahimovic in the champions league tie against Juve? He played with ANYONE in the centre of defence forming a solid partnership with Senderos and was part of the record breaking champions league clean sheets that we achieved. “Brother” Toure as my uncle calls him has been immense this season and has stood out as a player who leads from his actions and ripples positive energy to those around him. Perhaps a future captain in the making…

I obviously don’t know him personally but from what I have read about him and heard from him in interviews etc, he just seems like a really good guy…a good man and a great player…that is why in our household we call him “Brother” Toure…because you know you can rely on him when he puts on that Arsenal top. A key player for us this season without a doubt especially since Sol Campbell hasn’t been up to his usually high standards this year. A fans favourite for years to come for all the right reasons, an African warrior who will be at Arsenal for a very long time.

Then we move on to the obvious candidate, Thierry Henry, who scored 27 league goals and 33 altogether this season and was our main man generally when we ever looked in trouble. I don’t need to write much on him because everybody knows what he has done, breaking the Arsenal all time goal scoring record this season as well was truly special…you’re an absolute LEGEND Theirry…

Cesc Fabregas grew up even more this season and became not just a promising talent, but a KEY PLAYER in our team. The 4-5-1 formation wouldn’t have worked without him in and performances against Real Madrid and Juventus competing with the very best players in the world he showed his true colours. Just a few highlights of his season, that goal against Juventus and then the assist for Henry to score the second. The outplaying of Zidane, Beckham and co…against Real Madrid in THEIR OWN BACK YARD…making many of the Real Madrid fall over with his deceitful balance…that INCH perfect through ball against Liverpool that set up Henry for that beautiful…beautiful goal. Expect even more from him next season and today against France…

Then we have Jens Lehmann…who ever thought he would even be a contender for the player of the season a couple of years ago. Jens Lehmann has had a brilliant year, just unfortunate for him that he got sent off in the final…but that is all gone and forgotten now. He was without a doubt the best goalkeeper in the premiership last season and that isn’t even biased…If he was playing for Chelsea and had a season like he did, the Chelsea “overhype” would have kicked in and he would have been touted as the best goalkeeper of all time…absolutely brilliant keeping all year and he showed how phenomenal he was throughout the entire season. Played all 38 games of the premiership season and never let us down while still maintaining his crazy antics that we have all grown to love. World class saves have earned him the number one shirt for Germany, beating his old “chum” Oliver Kahn to the spot…Thank you for all of the times you saved us last season Jens, including that brilliant penalty save in the last minute against Villarreal…Nice one Jensy…

Who gets your vote…and why? Leave your comments in the comments section…for each three awards, player of the season, young player of the season and most improved. More later on the other two awards, enjoy the footy all and leave your comments below. Have a nice day…

IM NOT COCKY IM CONFIDENT, SO WHEN YOU TELL ME I WAS RIGHT IT’S A COMPLEMENT...ENGLAND WORLD CUP THOUGHTS

By M. B. Zaidi

Ok so my thoughts on England a couple days before the match were pretty much correct, click here to see what was written on England before the match.

Even though I would prefer that England play brilliant football...I REALLY didnt think we would and knew that we couldn't score from open play. I put a bet on Beckham being first scorer...and hey...it payed off nicely...a bit of luck perhaps, but an "educated guess" is what I prefer to call it...mainly because then my family cant call me a gambler-holic...anway back to why ENGLAND WOULDNT SCORE IN OPEN PLAY...

If Rooney was 100% MATCH FIT...not normal fitness, but MATCH FIT...then I would think England could score in open play, a fully match fit Wayne Rooney in any team would give it the potential to score plenty of goals. Thats because Wayne is a winner...a fighter and a boy next door GLADIATOR who will play football when he is 56 years old...not professionally, just at home with Coleen and the kids...thats because football is his life and that is what makes him such a great player. But even though he is all of these things, he isn’t superman…A 100% match fit Rooney could have made that 4-5-1 work…potentially…of course only if the rest of team did its job correctly, Lampard once again shot 62 times and scored nothing…proving what I had written before the game correct…but don’t get me wrong, he is a very DECENT player, just not like the overhyped BBC and Sky portray. He isn’t the second best player in the world as voted for in November 2005…that is quite ridiculous to tell you the truth…

Anyway back to….Rooney also could have made the team work if another player was playing with him upfront, because a player who has just come back from an injury like he has cant be expected to run after every ball in both the left and right channels…he did VERY well considering the circumstances in my opinion…great to see him back and he will be a great force for years to come…

Just the question remains if we can do anything against a Portugal side which won a WWE type brawl against Holland last night…that was hilarious stuff, even though it spoiled an end to end match which was shaping up to be a fantastic spectacle. Van Persie twice made Portugal players fall over with his Bergkampesque balance…that had me going all over the place…thanks Robin.

Anyway, I won the bet on Beckham to score because it was a lucky choice with high odds as he hasn’t scored in some time and then another “live bet” for it to stay 1-0 as soon as Beckham scored….I’ve been on a bit of a roll recently, don’t want to jinx it though, but I managed to spice up the boring Ukraine vs Switzerland game by winning another two bets in the penalty shootout…OH GOSH I sound like an addict…that should call it a day now but more tomorrow on Spain vs France which doesn’t need much introduction for the Arsenal fans out there…Fabregas should be playing and Henry has perhaps a bit to prove to all the haters who cant get off his back, but I will write on that tomorrow…Au revoir all.

New Arsenal Signings For The Start Of New Season?!?!?

By M. B. Zaidi

What a fascinating World Cup this is becoming already…with only two of the knockout matches finished, I am REALLY getting quite excited for tomorrows matches which should be even better. Well, perhaps speaking from a biased point of view as it IS ENGLAND playing, so that could be the reason for my quite unnecessary excitement…The Holland vs Portugal match though promises to be an even better encounter and it could go either way. Now you may be wondering, the title of this article is about new Arsenal signings, so you’re probably saying to yourself: “Why is he rabbitting on about the world cup?”…Well its quite simple, every world cup there are players that perform well for a few games, some retain this improvement when they go back and play for their clubs and some get overhyped and then get sold for stupid sums of money straight after…

Perfect example...Not suggesting that Rio Ferdinand is “overhype” as I call it, but perhaps the £30 million or so Manure payed for him straight after his wonderful performances in Japan four years ago was a bit steap as they say, which was a tremendous amount of money to pay for a centre back no matter how good they are…again, perfect example number two... half the Turkish team moved around Europe after showing that they were capable of being footballers and finishing third, but then they didn’t qualify for Euro 2004 and this years World Cup! So it shows things can go either way...I think you get the idea…

Anyway…back to OUR signings…as many of you will know we have been linked with pretty much all the players at the world cup including Sven and Steve Mclaren to play at centre back for the injured Senderos, who by the way, scored that bullet header, then broke his face and got back and tried doing the same thing again…THEN somebody had to put him straight and force him off with his arm in a sling…Swiss people for you AY…

Ok perhaps not all of the players but on a serious level…Since the few weeks before the world cup and throughout it we have been linked with Torres, Klose, Rosicky (who we actually have signed for anyone who isn’t aware) Podolski (but he has already been signed by Bayern Munich), Fran Ribery, Zigic (The tall geeza that looks like a fat Peter Crouch), Curtis Davies, Jaime Gavilan etc etc you get my point...

I will be the first to admit that any player of the quality of a Torres or Klose will, without a doubt, improve our team because they are both world class players. Both world class finishers and world class strikers, who would fit in perfectly alongside Mr Va Va Voom and his gang in a fancy new stadium…BUT…what is proving to be an even better circumstance for the future of our team is the international emergence of some of our outstanding youngsters…who have performed all years round to an impeccable standard but now are showing their worth on the highest international stage.

This seasons main man Cesc Fabregas came on the other day against Tunisia and was absolutely UNSTOPABLE! He has been our most consistent player all year, played more games than anyone in the league this year apart from Lehmann and all that at his tender age of 19…AND THEN TO ADD TO this seasons Champions League “success” in our own right…he now is really proving to the whole world he is truly a class player...capable of coming on and taking the game to the opposition...he zipped the ball around like a pro, kept the tempo up and made some killer passes...truly sensational. A certain Maradona was there to praise him after the game, lets hope he can follow his footsteps...sorry that came out wrong, not become a fat tub of lard who has a drug problem and a bad haircut...I mean one of the great all time players we have witnessed kick a football...anway...

Senderos scored a canon-ball-esque header and had a good solid game to take the Swiss into the next round…to be honest he was a bit shaky against the other teams in the group but overall he has done well. Reyes played and set up Spains only goal of the match with a cross that a left footed David Beckham would have been proud of. Van Persie was brilliant in the second game for the Dutch and again, has proven his worth. All of these youngsters are going to come back from the world cup, mentally stronger, mature and ultimately better players…moments like these in the world cup can make a player into a superstar and coming back to our team for the new season is only going to be beneficial for us. To add to that list, quite unlikely but with the surprises Sven comes out with you never know…Walcott COULD potentially do something to get himself noticed if he ever gets a chance to come on, but either way this experience will be beneficial to him and he and the others like him will come back JUST LIKE NEW SIGNINGS.

Fair enough, get excited and drool over 25 foot wonder strikes from our latest Czech acquisition, but DON’T FORGET that what we had here last season was truly something special and magical in a way that is quite hard to explain. YES we had a poor domestic season, but the second half was quite brilliant and our champions league run was phenomenal…Be proud to be a gooner at times like this where our kids are running rings around world class players at the world cup…new singings of Klose or Torres will be fantastic for sure, but a more mature and experienced Cesc Fabregas…Reyes, Van Persie, Senderos, Adebayour is even more benificial…these are the players that count as new and improved signings because they are already settled in and have a much better chance of making an impact for the next 10 years of their careers at the greatest club in England.

The world cup has now officially arrived at the Zaidi household (that’s my surname for anybody who didn’t know)…Today we had a huge barbeque in the blazing sun, watched the football and spent time with family who have travelled across the world to be here with us, quite a fantastic day I might add, lets hope its like that tomorrow with an England win...Walcott off the bench to get a hat-trick!? Not likely but we can keep anticipating...

Prediction for England?...DONT like to tempt fate…But my honest opinion is that it will be closer than what people may think, BUT im backing my team through this one to meet a jubilant Portuguese team in the quarter finals perhaps…hard one to call, but perhaps if Robben and Robin perform, it could be a close one. Look forward to it, hope you do too…more on the world cup soon…

Questions, Questions…And More Questions On England?

By M. B. Zaidi

Before I start I will say that what I am going to write today is my opinion only...everyone has their own opinion and I am just one...some people wont agree with me, so you may think my comments on England are controversial in some ways...Feel free to leave comments....

Michael Owen has been ruled out of the world cup and Newcastle wont have him back for another 5 months. Have to feel sorry for the lad after the year he has had, but that is the way things go in football. First question of the day…What the HELL happened last night against Sweden?...

Well Sven started Owen Hargreaves who had a fantastic first half, stuck with Owen and Rooney up front….and within the first minute Owen fell awkwardly with nobody even challenging him…Injury prone? Perhaps that’s an understatement…or maybe he is just unlucky…I think both…anway…Joe Cole was man of the match BY FAR and he was absolutely brilliant on the left, always looked dangerous and wasn’t afraid to run at defenders like he does…ALTHOUGH it must be noted that I did notice he NEVER played to Ashley Cole who made overlapping runs all night…Then a blinding effort from Joey…a sublime technique-driven volley that dipped and swerved into the far corner…WHAT A GOAL!...

Then after a good first half, stupid defending from set pieces let us down…TWICE…infact…about FIVE times….but only two went in, another hit the bar, another couple I think were off the line and one hitting Carragher’s arm….On an unlucky day it could have been 5-1 to the Swedes….Next question, can England win the world cup?...Can England even beat Ecuador? I think so…but perhaps lucky that it wasn’t Germany, because even though they aren’t the best team…we aren’t exactly hitting top form either, that would have been a tricky game to contend with for sure.

Now…to answer my question on England being able to win the world cup, I will say this: England is a country that is full of passion and desire to win things, to be the best, to rule the world, historically of course this has been the English tradition…ruling the world…perhaps not in football, but it runs through the blood of the English and I know that may be controversial but its true…nothing wrong in wanting and striving to be the best so why not THINK we can win the world cup?...BUT then reality kicks in with the team and it worries me that England are increasingly looking like Spain in the last few major tournaments…Packed with phenomenal individual talent, world class players….but no end product? A team that arguably has the best individual players for each position in terms of an overall spread of talent across the pitch, but just DON’T CLICK together? Let me break down what I think of the team right now, how good are the players representing England right now?

How good is Robinson? A tremendously agile and instinctive goalkeeper that is more than decent and has been my first choice for a LONG time, way before David James, so yes, Robinson is good enough to be mentioned as a decent goalkeeper who does a good job.

Neville is an experienced work horse who is positionally correct and confortable in attack, not a flair full back like Roberto Carlos, Cafu, Ashley Cole, but is reliable.

Carragher is NOT A FULL BACK in my eyes, he is a strong centre half playing at right back…a full back supports play and in modern football is a huge part of the way a team attacks, with him at right back he doesn’t give you that edge in terms of attack, but is a more than capable defender who is solid, reliable and still assured in possession…JUST NOT an attacking threat like Ashley Cole is.

John Terry is a good defender who plays with his heart, a true Englishmen who has been overhyped by the overhyping British media…a good defender, solid, not the best in the world like the media try to portray…the best defender in the world doesn’t miss headers like that Sweden long throw…he makes a lot more mistakes than Rio and hardly ever gets mentioned…but still is a great defender, who can handle some of the best attackers in the world, but when you play behind Makelele all year for Chelsea, you are sure to be called the best defender in the league etc…just overhyping as the media tend to do in England.

Rio, strong, fast, brilliant on the ball…top defender, top man…

Ashley…Best left back in the world right now, perhaps only because there aren’t TOO many brilliant ones around, but that doesn’t take away what he is…

Beckham is a masterful passer of the ball, crosser, free kick taker, and can always make that vital pass that nobody else can seem to do…it all looks pretty but the truth is he doesn’t always show up and make a difference…always plays for the team though and is one of the best at what he DOES…but im afraid that even though he is such a phenomenal player technically, he seems to unnecessarily play long balls ALL THE TIME, even down the wing to the right back who is 5 yards in front, he has to chip it up in the air and curl it a bit…not needed…but cant take away from him that is a one of a kind player.

Gerrard is much more effective than Frank in either position, defensive midfield, attacking midfield…he is a class player who makes a tremendous difference to the team…

Frank is another player that has suffered from the Chelsea HYPE…a wonderful player in the premiership, technically gifted, does all the simple things right, makes short passes, makes good runs and scores plenty…BUT when he plays for England, he ISNT A PLAYMAKER, he doesn’t get the ball and dribble forward, or pass forward, always sideways and then he runs forward…he too often drops back close to the defence to pick up the ball, when he doesn’t need to…when he plays we don’t get to see the best of Gerrard who is far the superior player.

Joey Cole is the only creative player that we saw last night for England, bright and creative all night…no worries for the left flank anymore…

Rooney is the icing on the cake for a team who is packed with talented footballers, a natural footballer who has the potential to be an absolute LEGEND…aggressive, strong, pacy, a cannonball of a shot...an eye for a killer pass and the linking player that Englands play should be revolved around…the only player that can make Owen look like a top top top player...

I will leave it at that because the team stops there, Owen isn’t a team player but can score goals when he plays terrible, but he is on his way home now…Crouch is a lanky striker who will get a limited number of goals if he continues to play, but with him playing the team as a whole..DOESNT play like a team…not his fault, just the way it goes…

OH AND just to add, Hargreaves is an underated ball winner who has held a place down at Bayern Munich for a number of years….he isn’t the best, but I feel sorry for him when people unnecessarily put him down, when he ends up playing better than Lampard…maybe if he played for Chelsea people might except him? That’s enough for today…have a nice day.

Rosicky Sets The World Cup On Fire With 3 Moments Of Brilliance

By M. B. Zaidi

Tomas Rosicky our new signing scored twice in a 3-0 win for the Czech Republic who looked a solid team in an exciting world cup….I don’t usually expect much from the group stages but yesterday was absolutely brilliant…3 great matches as Australia scored 3 goals in the last few minutes to snatch a victory away from Japan…the Czech’s beat the USA with ease with our new boy Rosicky scoring two cracking goals and the evening game between Italy and Ghana was truly a great contest, only if Ghana had a decent striker it could have been a lot closer.

Is it just me…or are the reporters and commentators really pissing you off? They cant make up their minds and contradict them selves every two minutes…In the Italian game they were saying that a 4-3-3 was too adventurous but yet two years ago in the European championships they were saying Italy weren’t adventurous enough? For me, Totti was playing brilliantly before he was taken off and Luca Toni looks like a tremendous forward….He’s got this MASSIVE build, strength, height, pace and is agile for somebody his size. Also a more than decent dribbler but what stood out was his overall involvement in the game and that thunderous drive that rattled the bar….He could be one to watch this world cup, with Totti playing behind him and hopefully for them Zambrotta and Gattuso coming back later, they seem a decent team.

Anyway back to the ARSENAL players….Rosicky played in the centre of midfield for the Czechs and even though I thought they should have played a lot more through him, he still had a great game and scored two world class goals and could have had the first hatrick of the tournament if his vicious drive from outside the box hadn’t hit the bar. For £7mil he is an absolute bargain and as I said previously when we signed him, his price tag would have gone up if he had a good world cup, which he seems to have already begun in extraordinary fashion. His first goal was an example of the sheer class we have invested in, a 25 year old who has played in a strong German league and an experienced regular and key member of his country’s side. Cant wait to see him play for us in the Emirates stadium….but after that showing it is clear that to see him on the left hand side may not be what is ideal. Sure he could do a good job there, but to be at his best we need him in the middle of the park, perhaps behind a striker…not clear to see where he will fit in but it is exciting just thinking about it.

His second goal showed us that he has a great deal of pace which I was under the illusion of that he may not have too much of, but his run into the box to skip away from the defender demonstrated that my pre-conceptions were incorrect…then the Bergkamp-esque finish had class oozing out of it…inbetween those two goals was another cracking drive from way outside the box that thundered onto the crossbar…what a hatrick that would have been…a truly technically gifted player that will fit in just perfectly at Arsenal…not often that I would say well done to Arsene Wenger BEFORE his new signings have even put on the Arsenal shirt, but this one is like day light robbery…Nice one Arsene.

France and Brazil play today in separate games, with our boys Senderos and Djourou being the centre backs playing against their club captain Theirry Henry for France, and Adebayor playing for Togo earlier today. The samba boys of Brazil will show us why they are the world cup holders and faviroutes to lift it again…with what I think will be an easy victory for them tonight. Good day all, enjoy the football…

Van Persie Stranded in Robben Show

By M. B. Zaidi

Van Persie who has been in sizzling form in the friendly’s before the world cup begun for Holland, was hardly allowed a touch in their opening game. Yes, Robben had a good game, but can nobody else see how much he hogged the ball and ran at every occasion possible?…Of course sometimes he pulled it off, taking it around 3 or 4 players and making it look all pretty…but how many times did he lose the ball when he could have played a simple ball inside? Also the rest of the team kept pumping up balls on the left hand side where he was playing, leaving Van Persie stranded on the other flank…then when they switched sides, they did the same, pumping up the ball to the right side, where Robben had moved. Van Persie did everything right when he actually got on the ball, he set up Robben for a super cool finish….but for me Robben was overly selfish and stole the show just because the stupid BBC/ITV commentators/panel couldn’t see that he was trying to do everything himself.

Even though I hate the horse faced Van Nistelrooy, there is no doubt he is a top class finisher in the box, and him being on the field was a waste because Robben never seemed to want to pass or cross. Fair enough, he scored the goal and he almost scored another couple that were wonder strikes, he dribbled for fun, but he can still do that and be a lot more effective by being a team player. Robin Van Persie was right to say at a news conference that “Robben cant win the world cup on his own”. Damn Right! Hopefully we will see more of Van Persie in the coming weeks because he was in truly amazing form before the world cup begun in the friendly’s I got to see of Holland. Still so far it has been a decent world cup, with Argentina being the only team that has REALLY caught my eye in terms of being a contender to win it, we are still to see Brazil and France who will play today…Don’t you just love the world cup….

CROUCH-ing Tiger Hidden ROBOT...World Cup Fast Approaching

By M. B. Zaidi

Well the World Cup is almost here, just a few days before Germany kick off the competition in their homeland on Friday, with England playing on Saturday.....It is going to be an interesting world cup with England having a very strong team and definitely having a good chance to do well in the competition....BUT nobody is stronger than the Brazilians....YES I know I’m stating the obvious but it has to be commented, that the Brazilians will always be favourites but that could work against them with a star studded attacking line up, there are some doubts over the defensive capabilities of the World champions...

Anyway, apologies for lack of posts in the last few weeks or so, just a bit of a hectic time for the next month until June 29th, will try my best to keep updating throughout the world cup when I get some time, but apologies before hand on the lack of articles that will be published. Looking forward to an exciting world cup, with or without Wayne Rooney, England SHOULD beat the tricky Paraguay side on Saturday...Perhaps we might even be lucky enough to see...I mean "experience" the CROUCH-ing Tiger Hidden ROBOT......Yes INDEED it is quite hillarious to watch....laughing at him of course....anways....Come On England!....

Prediction: England WIN against Paraguay....not to tempt fate!...Good day all....
