So another disappointing night for Arsenal. At a time when we needed to be resilient and strong, we have shown a weakness over the last six weeks, which has undone the fantastic start to the season. It is difficult to see how the players, let alone the manager will be able to pick themselves up for the Man U game, which if we don’t win, leaves us trophy – less for another season.
However it is time to be positive. Over the two games, the big penalty decisions went against us. But when those decisions were made, both games were being drawn, so we cannot in all honesty say that we played Liverpool off the park. Our day will come, we have improved so much this season and we will get even better next year. Liverpool have a great spirit in Europe which is unrivalled by the other English clubs – but they remain way off the pace in the league. You can’t have everything. Man U and Chelsea throw money at problems. As long as Wenger is in charge, that will not be the case at Arsenal.
Knee jerk reactions like calling for the manager’s head, or deciding who will be in and out over the summer, are not important now. And the suggestion that Wenger should leave is frankly ridiculous. I want the boys to finish the season strongly, not just fade away. We shouldn’t feel injustice about last night. Of course we’re all unhappy and disappointed but there will always be next year. Theo Walcott’s impact will hopefully persuade Arsene to play him for the remaining fixtures this season. He deserves his chance, as do some other fringe players like Bendtner and Diaby.
