A very decent performance for an away fixture at Celtic. Even though both goals had some element of luck in them, I’m sure you would all agree that we deserved the victory today.

Today we saw some very good performances. Vermaelen looks like a great find. Positionally astute, strong in the tackle, very good on the ball and more than decent in the air; I am very happy with his two appearances for Arsenal so far this season. As much as I loved Kolo Toure, he looks so far to have improved on our first choice defence from last year.

Fabregas was immense today. He worked so hard and was involved with most of our attacking play. Also, a word for Song who again showed that he has what it takes to be playing for Arsenal week in week out.

So, we ask you…who was your man of the match? Please vote above and leave some comments below to say why you think the player you voted for was the man of the match.

  • Has to be Vermaelen for me! Super guy.

    Vermaelen and Song for sure!

Excellent win in a tough Celtic Park. Not the prettiest of matches we’ve ever had, but these are exactly the kinds of matches we need to grind out and put on the board. Last season, if this had been a League match, it would have wound up a draw and 1 point. This season I think we have the mettle to pull out 3 against the physical, pack the box teams like Fulham, Bolton, Blackburn, etc. As those commentators are so fond of pointing out, those “cold, rainy nights in February”…but this year I think a different Arsenal side shows up and gets the job done.

Top honors to Vermaelen, who again shows he’s a no-nonsense central defender. That run he made into the box to clear the cross in the first half was brilliant. He made up about 20 yards and closed on the ball as it arrived centrally, clearing off to keep Almunia safe. Just excellent work and commitment.

Song was again strong, as was Gallas. Either of them could have MOTM consideration. And credit to Gallas’ bum for the goal. Truly “cheeky”. 🙂

Cesc was strong. Really strong. Not flashy or overly creative tonight, but strong in all facets and also should get some nods for MOTM. We’re going to have matches like this where the flow just isn’t there, but Cesc needs to keep the team focused and continually aggressive and tonight he did just that. Just as a Captain should.

On to The Ems for Portsmouth on Saturday and then the second leg of the CL next week. We have every reason to be optimistic right now, but not arrogant. Just keep working, believe in each other and continue to play cohesive Arsenal football. We’ll be in great shape.

      Well Said!

  • Fabregas for me. He ran the show and made sure the midfield was won.
