ARSENAL v STANDARD LIEGE

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GROUP H

The Emirates, Tuesday, November 24th

Kick off 19.45GMT

Three things spring to mind straight away about this fixture which is fairly easy to decipher.

First of all, Arsenal will be rocking after losing to Sunderland on Saturday and looking for sweet revenge.

Secondly, Arsenal uncharacteristically did not score on Saturday, the first game in which they have failed to score since May.

Thirdly, Liege are on a poor run of results. They have lost two of their last three games, and drew the other on. Their away form is terrible and they leak goals.

Everything points to a home win with plenty of goals involved.

With Arsenal only needing a point to secure qualification from the group, and with a game against Chelsea coming up on Sunday, it’s difficult to assess what kind of team Wenger will pick for this game. However, Rafael Benitez is not involved in team selection at The Emirates, so a full-strength team should take to the field.

TEAM NEWS

Out for Arsenal are Van Persie, Bendtner, Djourou, Clichy and Diaby. Back in the match day squad is Gibbs.

VERDICT

Even though Arsenal have some injury worries, they still ooze class and should overwhelm a pretty ordinary Liege. Goals will be the order of the day from Wenger and the flair and attacking strength of the Gunners will surely oblige.

An interesting stat spotted earlier reveals that Arsenal concede an average of 2.8 corners per home game while they gain an average of 7.0 (an average total of 9.8 corners per match at The Emirates). Seeing as Arsenal should be on top of this game, they could raise this average. Have a look at Betfair’s Corners Odds market for this game. Ten to 12 corners is currently 3.05 is very tempting. As a saver, go high at 13 corners or more at 3.3.

Arsenal’s match odds of 1.3 does not offer much value for a single bet. However, Betfair offer a straightforward handicap market with Standard receiving a 1.5 goal start. Arsenal are currently at 1.9 in this market and should be desirable to ardent Gunner punters (Arsenal will have to win by two goals – easy).

Arsenal are averaging four goals per home game this season and this match should not bring that average down. Betfair’s Over 4.5 Goals market is very generous at current odds of 4.6, especially as Arsenal have not found goals difficult to get this season.
